Real-World Experience for Your Career in Hospitality Management

Earning a degree in hospitality management is more than just coursework and grades; it is also about the experience! JMU promotes real life experiences and provides internships with the university’s very own Hotel Madison and restaurant or through Aramark, JMU’s dining/food service. With these internships and externships, students can graduate with more than 1,000 hours of real-world experience, and they earn academic credit for that work! Watch our video to learn more.

As hospitality is a global industry, it’s important to have experiences beyond our campus in Virginia. That’s why JMU students can apply for study abroad and exchange programs or external programs in Florence, Australia, Spain, Ireland, Greece and South Korea. Other students may choose to get field experience by participating in the Napa & Sonoma Wine and Culture experience in California or by attending other events in major locations like New York City, when possible. The Hart School hosts two career fairs each year for Hospitality Management students. During these fairs, students learn from and meet with a variety of companies, network with employers, and find out what companies are looking for along with possible job opportunities.
